All About Cullen Chain of Lakes, MN

Cullen Chain of Lakes consists of three lakes, Upper Cullen, Middle Cullen, and Lower Cullen, located in Crow Wing County in the Central Region of Minnesota. With over 1,300 acres of water and zoned for recreational development, the Cullen Chain of Lakes are fast becoming a popular vacation destination. Water level fluctuations are generally less than one foot.

Although the three lakes are connected, each lake of the Cullen Chain has its own special draw. Upper Cullen Lake spans 435 acres and is the headwater lake. The only public access to this lake is through a narrow channel from Middle Cullen Lake. There are homes located along the shoreline, and cabins can be rented that include a private boat ramp. Middle Cullen Lake offers 382 acres and has a public access located on the northeast side of the lake. Lower Cullen Lake is the largest of the three lakes in the chain and boast of 512 acres of water. This lake is the most developed of the three lakes, and public access can be found on the southeast side of the lake.

The crystal clear waters of the Cullen Chain of Lakes are inviting and offer a number of waterside activities. Anglers will enjoy casting in their lines for a relaxing time of fishing. Game fish in the Cullen Chain of Lakes include black crappie, largemouth bass, walleye, and northern pike. Lake visitors can find camping on Upper Cullen Lake with water, electric, picnic tables, and a fire ring. There are cabins and villas located on all three lakes at different resorts for those who enjoy a more comfortable stay. Golfers will appreciate beautiful wooded and lakeside views on several area golf courses.

Cullen Chain of Lakes visitors will also enjoy the Paul Bunyan Trail which offers hiking, in-line skating, and bicycling during warm months and snowmobiling in the winter months. The paved trail can be accessed on Lower Cullen Lake. Other nearby attractions includes fine dining, shopping, horseback riding, miniature golf, and go-cart tracks.
