All About Eagle Lake, NY
A quiet lake located in Essex County, New York, Eagle Lake is home to beautiful scenery of the Adirondack area. With its close proximity to many attractions, countless visitors are discovering that this lake is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and mountain lovers.
Eagle Lake over the years has been known as Chilson Lake, Long Pond, and Paragon Pond, but today only the older residents refer to it by anything other than Eagle Lake. Known as a great real estate investment, lakefront property owners enjoy the benefits of having private access to the water. A beach area on the eastern shore attracts families looking for a nice place to picnic and swim in the cool, clear water. A public boat launch operated by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation allows visitors easy access for boating and fishing. Four seasons of fishing for smallmouth bass, northern pike, brown bullhead, pickerel, pumpkinseed, brown trout, largemouth bass, black crappie, rock bass, yellow perch, and lake whitefish keep anglers challenged whether on the water or on the ice.
A short drive from Eagle Lake is the town of Ticonderoga whose name is derived from the Mohawk word for “at the junction of two waterways.” It is this strategic position between Lake George and Lake Champlain that gives the area its rich history of battles and maneuvers during the French and Indian War and American Revolution around Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point. Ticonderoga is located entirely within the Adirondack Park and part of the Adirondack State Forest.
Essex County, home to Eagle Lake and Ticonderoga, is known as an outdoor adventure getaway. In the warm months, tourists and residents enjoy beaches, swimming, lakes, festivals, boating, hiking and biking; in fact, the peaceful country roads and scenic villages of the county have made the area a premier bicycle touring destination. Many small towns along the Champlain Bikeways target bikers with vacation rentals, bike repair shops, simple eateries, and supply stations. During the snowy winter months, the Adirondack area comes alive with ice fishing, ice boating, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating and ice fishing. The world famous Lake Placid, home to the 1932 and 1980 winter Olympics, offers visitors opportunities to challenge the Olympic venues. World class vacation rentals are available to top off this adventure from resorts to lodges where athletes stayed, or perhaps a quaint bed and breakfast, cabin, privately owned vacation home, or campground better suits your needs. No matter which sport you choose, there will be guides, trainers, and outfitters in the area to see that you have a memorable vacation.
Whether you come for the scenic mountains, the deep historical roots of the area, or year round outdoor sports adventures, the Eagle Lake area is sure to meet all the requirements of a great vacation. Start planning your trip and get ready for some memories of a lifetime.
