Lake St. Peter is a 578-acre lake located in rural McClure township, Ontario, Canada. Its beautiful sandy beaches, scenic hiking trails, camping facilities, and water related recreational activities make it perfect for a family vacation or just a relaxing day on the water.

There are plenty of opportunities for boating and fishing on Lake St. Peter. You can launch your own boat from a boat ramp on the eastern side of the lake or rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboat to truly enjoy the clear, clean water. Sport fish in the lake include lake trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, kokanee, smallmouth bass, white sucker, rock bass and walleye. With an average depth of 26 feet, casting a line is best from a boat. Lake St. Peter Provincial Park, located on the northern end of the lake, offers wooded and waterfront campsites, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, picnic amenities, bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities. A park store located at the park entrance sells camping supplies and park souvenirs.

Two popular hiking trails wind their way around Lake St. Peter. Lookout Trail is a strenuous 1.5 mile hike to a spectacular lookout overlooking the sparkling lake. Shanty trail is 2.7 mile trail off Lookout Trail that passes by a small lake and leads to an abandoned log cabin. This trail eventually links to the Hastings Heritage Trail. The Heritage Trail is a 200-mile multi-use trail which follows an old abandoned railway line. The trail is open year round to hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, skiers, dog-sledders, and snowmobilers. There are many stops along the way that are sure to catch your interest. Deer and moose also enjoy the trails around Lake St. Peter and it is not uncommon to see them come down to the lake for a drink in the evening. Rock collectors will love the minerals found in the bedrock along the trails.

Just north of Lake St. Peter is Algonquin Provincial Park, a 1,891,201-acre protected expanse of untouched forests and pristine lakes where you can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, and just about every outdoor activity imaginable. There are also vacation rentals of all kinds in and around the park if you’d like to spend some time exploring the area.

Winter is a busy time at Lake St. Peter. The crisp air and a beautiful blanket of snow turn Lake St. Peter into a winter wonderland with plenty of opportunities for ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, alpine skiing, dog-sledding, and snowboarding.

Other attractions near Lake St. Peter include the town of Bancroft known for its art galleries, studio tours and art exhibits, Coe Hill Gold Mine and Princess Sodalite Mine popular with rock and mineral collectors, Egan Chute waterfall located east of Bancroft and a large number of small to midsized lakes all known for their excellent fishing, boating and inviting surroundings. There are also several golf courses in the area.

A beautiful four season lake, Lake St. Peter has something for everyone with its excellent fishing, boat and canoe rentals, children’s playground, nature trails, sandy beaches, and golfing nearby.
