All About Lake Tchukolako

Lake Locations: USA - South - Georgia - Historic Heartland -

Lake Tchukolako in Ivey, Georgia is a privately owned lake that is known for its peacefulness, beautiful scenery, and friendly neighbors. The name Tchukolako, pronounced “chew-co-la-co”, was chosen from the tribal name of American Indians who once lived in the area.

Built in the mid 1960’s for the sole purpose of a lake front community, Lake Tchukolako is now the centerpiece of Holiday Hills where real estate opportunities are still available. Residents join the homeowner’s association for modest yearly dues and have access to a 18 hole golf course and clubhouse, two swimming pools, and a pristine sandy beach with swimming area. Residents enjoy boating, waterskiing, tubing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, crappie and catfish. With large cities within a short drive, residents claim to have serenity of a small town feeling but with the convenience of needed amenities nearby.

Wilkinson County, home to Ivey and Lake Tchukolako, has a rich historical past. The county was created in 1803 and named after an officer in the Revolutionary War, General James Wilkinson. The county seat, Irwinton, was established on the site of an English trading post built around 1715 and was named for past governor, Jared Irwin. At the southern part of the county Allentown was constructed on the remains of a deserted Indian Village which was abandoned around 1600 after being destroyed by a terrible storm. The northern part of the county was once Fort Advance where settlers went for safety during Indian uprisings.

Lake Tchukolako and Wilkinson County are located in the Historic Heartland Tourist Region of Georgia. As you travel through the historic towns of what is known as Georgia’s Civil War Capital gazing at the magnolias, red bud trees, and southern charm of the area, you may have visions of the days of “Gone with the Wind.” Vacation rentals throughout offer refurbished plantations as bed and breakfast inns, an old stagecoach stop rebuilt as a village of inns, a guest ranch offering unlimited access to horses, lakeside cabins, and a range of motels. Nearby Indian Springs State Park, thought to be the oldest state park in the nation, offers what the Creek Indians once believed to be healing waters along with cottages, swimming and hiking trails. Of course, along the way you will see many peach orchards as Georgia is known as the Peach State.

The Georgia Heartland is full of breathtaking vistas, thought-provoking historical sites, and large cities of Macon and Athens. For a quiet respite loaded with southern hospitality and friendly residents, make time in your trip for a visit to Lake Tchukolako.
