All About Lake Windsor, AR
Lake Windsor is one of seven lakes in the Bella Vista Village in Northwest Arkansas. The Bella Vista lakes are private lakes and only members and their guests may enjoy them. Lake Ann, Lake Windsor, and Lake Loch Lomond are the largest recreational lakes in the community. Lake Avalon, Lake Norwood, Lake Brittany, and Lake Rayburn are primarily fishing lakes with no-wake restrictions.
Lake Windsor is the second largest of the lakes (Loch Lomond being the largest), covering 220 acres with a maximum depth of 80 feet. Lake Windsor is an unlimited power lake so those wishing to fly across the surface of the lake can feel free. Water skiing and tubing are also encouraged.
Lake Windsor sits against a backdrop of the Ozark Mountains, offering visitors some spectacular views. Hardwood forests throughout the Bella Vista community create privacy for homeowners as well as shelter for wild deer, turkey, and other native wildlife. Completed in 1975, Lake Windsor provides members a spectacular place to recreate, including water skiing, swimming, and fishing.
Boat launches are located at the end of the two main arms of the lake and along the lake’s dam. Fish in the lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish, crappie and catfish. Lake Windsor is one of two village lakes that host fishing tournaments. Other lake amenities include a covered pavilion, restrooms, and courtesy docks.
The village of Bella Vista Property Owners Association affords its members and guests numerous recreational opportunities. Fitness/recreation centers, outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, an RV park, racquetball courts, golf courses, miniature golf courses, playgrounds, parks and pavilions, a yacht club and full service marina, walking trails, basketball courts and pickleball courts can all be found within the village. Visitors and residents of Lake Windsor are allowed to use any of the facilities within the village.
Real estate around Lake Windsor is primarily single family residences. You will also find attractive townhouses, especially around the golf courses. Numerous vacation rentals are here for anyone who would like an extended stay in the idyllic community. No matter where you decide to book, you are never more then a few miles from a lake.
Designed as a retirement community, younger families are discovering that Bella Vista is a wonderful location for anyone desiring a quiet community with larger city conveniences. The nearby cities of Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville offer unlimited shopping and dining opportunities. Fayetteville is also home the University of Arkansas campus.
While Lake Windsor as well as the surrounding lakes are the real main attraction of the area, Bella Vista’s seven golf courses also provide outdoor recreation. The scenic greens are designed for all skill levels, from beginning golfer to top flight pro.
For the outdoor enthusiast, many paved walking trails weave their way through the lakeside communities. Below the Windsor Lake Dam, the Tanyard Creek Nature Trail takes visitors on a scenic hike through the Arkansas countryside. A beautiful waterfall created by run off from Lake Windsor is a favorite resting place. Below the falls, small rapids make a wonderful recreation area for children and adults. Other activities you can enjoy in the area include horseback riding and canoe trips.
For an interesting daytrip or weekend excursion, plenty of hunting, camping, hiking, nature viewing, and bicycling can be found at Beaver Lake State Park, Hobbs State Park Conservation Area, Devil’s Den State Park, Ozark National Forest and Withrow Spring State Park, all within a short drive from Lake Windsor.
