All About Table Rock Lake, AR/MO
Branson, Missouri has the saying “Someone you love is playing here.” When you visit nearby Table Rock Lake, the person playing is sure to be you. With all the amenities that Branson has to offer and some of the nation’s best bass fishing, Table Rock Lake is an Ozark Mountain playground waiting to be enjoyed. The lake winds through the Ozarks from Branson, Missouri to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Constructed in the Upper White River basin in Taney County, Arkansas, Table Rock Lake is an impoundment of the White River. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers designed and built Table Rock Dam in 1958 for flood control and hydroelectric power. The Corps still manages the lake today.
There are several public marinas on the lake, and it’s possible to rent wave runners, pontoon boats, fishing boats, and ski boats. Adventurous visitors can try an adrenaline-pumping parasailing ride. If you prefer to ride than drive, schedule an excursion on a 48-foot catamaran or on the Branson Belle, a paddle wheel river boat that offers dinner cruises. Even with all the traffic, however, Table Rock Lake is known as a very safe lake.
Scuba divers will find everything they need at the local scuba dive shop and will love exploring this crystal clear lake. Near Table Rock Dam, divers can explore the “Enchanted Forest.” The forest is a grove of large, submerged oaks that is home to many fish.
The lake is full of crappie, catfish and bluegill. With the reputation for being one of the “best bass fishing lakes in this hemisphere,” anglers are sure to catch plenty of white bass and striped bass. The lake doesn’t freeze, so there are lots of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and Kentucky spotted bass year round to challenge beginning and experienced anglers.
There are campgrounds and picnic areas around the lake, including some at Table Rock State Park. Visitors can learn about the lake and its flora and fauna at the Dewey Short Visitor Center. With its 2.2 miles of paved trail, the Table Rock Lakeshore Trail is a great place to view the lake while hiking or biking. The nearby Mark Twain National Forest adds to the recreation opportunities.
With its proximity to Branson, “Live Entertainment Capital,” and its world class bass fishing, Table Rock Lake is sure to delight everyone in the family.
