All About Eagle Lake WI

Lake Locations: USA - Midwest - Wisconsin - Lake Michigan Region -

Eagle Lake is a relatively shallow, but popular recreational lake in Racine County, Wisconsin. A county park on the northern shore and several public boat launches give visitors access to this beautiful 515-acre lake.

Eagle Lake is best known for its fishing and boating. With an average depth of six feet and a maximum depth of 12 feet, boaters need to be aware of the water depth when cruising the lake. A small dam on the outlet of Eagle Lake helps control the water level and maintain the water quality. In the hot summer months, the water level can drop significantly. Paddlers will have no problem gliding across the tranquil water. Eagle Lake’s water quality is monitored by the Department of Natural Resources, and steps have been taken to ensure the lake stays clean and invasive weed growth is controlled. Weed growth can be a big problem in shallow lakes.

Eagle Lake’s nearly five miles of sandy and wooded shoreline is heavily developed with beautiful homes and a few businesses. Docks of all shapes and sizes jut from the shoreline, and most homes contain one or more boats. Fishing is a popular pastime any time of year with largemouth bass, northern pike, perch, walleye, bullhead and bluegill being the predominant fish in the lake. The lake is regularly stocked with northern pike and walleye.

Eagle Lake Park, located on the north side of the lake, is a popular spot with both visitors and residents. The park includes a public boat launch, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms. A fishing pier and room along the banks for casting a line is a great way for kids to learn the sport of fishing. In addition to the boat launch at the park, two other public access areas can be found on the lake.

For vacation rentals, seasonal homes are often available for rent on and near Eagle Lake. Additional lodging can be found in many of the nearby small towns. Resorts, charming bed and breakfasts, and modern hotels are plentiful in the larger cities of Burlington and Racine. Anyone considering a relaxing retirement area, second home, or piece of land for hunting, camping or fishing will find all kinds of real estate for sale in the area.

When it comes to outdoor recreation, Eagle Lake and the surrounding area has much to offer. The Richard Bong State Recreation Area is located just south of the lake. With 4,515 rolling acres of grasslands, wetlands and woodlands, the Area is popular for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and ATV and dirt bike riding. Visitors to 150-acre Vern Wolf Lake enjoy camping, fishing, canoeing, and swimming. Picnic facilities throughout the area are a great way to enjoy the wooded sections. The park was originally built to be a jet fighter base. The project was canceled three days before concrete was due to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Area residents had the foresight to protect the open space for future generations. In 1974, the state bought the land creating the state’s first recreation area. The park was named for Major Richard Bong, a local World War II air ace.

West of Eagle Lake, Browns Lake, in the town of Burlington, is a popular fishing and recreation lake. Those looking for a larger body of water will find Lake Michigan a short drive to the east. Much of Racine County is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. The city of Racine is a beautiful community at the mouth of the Root River as it empties into Lake Michigan. The Lake Michigan shoreline along Racine has much to offer with scenic vistas from Cliffside Park, sun bathing and swimming on North Beach, and Festival Park overlooking the beautiful harbor. The Wind Point Lighthouse has become a famous icon thanks to the many artists and photographers who have captured its beauty. The Root River winds through the city and offers a series of parks and trails accessible to the public. The river is also a great draw for hikers, fishermen and kayakers. Racine has many architectural interests to include three buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Downtown Racine is home to the stunning Racine Art Museum and the Racine Heritage Museum. The Racine Zoological Gardens, located on the north side of downtown, covers 32 acres, and the zoo is home to over 250 animals.

Chocolate lovers visiting Eagle Lake may be interested in the Nestle Chocolate and Confection Company located in the city of Burlington. In May, the city celebrates a three-day ChocolateFest with music, parades, family activities, and of course, chocolate. Shopping, dining, golfing, and cultural events can also be enjoyed in the city.

Located just a short drive from Milwaukee, Chicago, and Madison, Eagle Lake offers the charm and serenity of the countryside with close access to major metropolitan areas. Come for a visit and see for yourself why so many people choose the Lake Michigan Region as their number one vacation destination choice.
