With its sparkling, well-stocked waters and the surrounding community’s many amenities, Lake Nebagamon is the perfect home or home away from home.

Just 30 miles southeast of Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota, Lake Nebagamon is a year round paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Anglers can enjoy some of the best fishing in the state with catches of northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, perch, catfish and bluegill. Public and private boat ramps make the lake easily accessible. Several sand beaches offer shoreline fishing. Chinook, coho salmon, musky, lake trout, and sturgeon can be found in the 431 inland lakes in the area. Gun and bow hunting season opens in fall with deer, black bear, rabbit, squirrel, duck, and grouse being plentiful in the surrounding woods of Douglas County.

Summer visitors to Lake Nebagamon can enjoy a public beach, basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts, picnic facilities, campgrounds, playgrounds, a fishing pier, and hiking trails. The surrounding hillside offers opportunity for whitewater rafting, golfing, hiking, and biking. In the fall when the area foliage turns brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow, visitors can enjoy scenic driving, hiking, and biking through the beautiful countryside. Just 30 miles from Lake Superior, the world’s largest inland lake, families can take a harbor cruise, sail, swim and just enjoy the magnificent lake. When the snow falls over Lake Nebagamon, there are trails for cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Ice fishing tournaments, ice skating, and sled dog races are also popular winter pastimes. True winter sports enthusiasts will love the cross country ski trails at nearby Pattison State Park and The After Hours Ski Trail in the Brule River State Forest.

Lake Nebagamon is fed by springs and inlets from Lake Minnesuing through Minnesuing and Black Creeks. The main outlet of the lake drains into Nebagamon Creek to the Brule River and eventually to Lake Superior, part of an unusual series of waterways which flow north.

For lodging and weekend or week-long accommodations, vacation rentals around Lake Nebagamon range from small cabins to custom homes. Available are both waterfront homes and homes nestled in the hills overlooking the lake. Most resort cottages are heated and open for business year round. There is real estate for sale around Lake Nebagamon, including both homes and lots. Most of the shoreline is developed with private homes and commercial property, but untouched areas around the lake can be found by adventurous hikers and boaters.

Recreation at Lake Nebagamon is not limited to the water. The village of Lake Nebagamon offers several restaurants and gift shops within walking distance of the lake. Restaurants in Douglas County range from cafes and pubs to family and fine dining. Several golf courses can be found in the area along with museums and antique shops. Duluth, Minnesota is 40 minutes from the lake and offers museums, an aquarium, movies, dining, shopping and more. Museums and historical sites can also be found in the city of Superior located on the shore of Lake Superior. Boat lovers will want to visit Barker’s Island and Marina, located in Lake Superior. The island boasts a 420-slip marina, docking facilities, and sailboat rentals. On the island you will also find places to dine, lodging accommodations and shopping.

For outdoor adventurists, Pattison State Park, just west of Lake Nebagamon, features the highest waterfalls in Wisconsin. Big Manitou Falls are 165 feet high, and Little Manitou Falls are 31 feet high. The 1,436-acre park also has a lake with a beach, nature programs, a nature center, camping, miles of hiking trails, and abundant wildlife.

Brule River State Forest, east of Lake Nebagamon, is a 47,000-acre State Forest offering exceptional recreational opportunities, including wildlife viewing, five State Natural Areas, a 16-mile stretch of the North Country National Scenic Trail, eight miles of frontage on Lake Superior, the Bois Brule State Fish Hatchery, and 44 miles of the beautiful Bois Brule River. The breathtaking scenery of Douglas County make a visit to the western tip of Wisconsin a must for every visitor.
